India’s Energy & Chemical Security Deserves Real Time Trade Intelligence

India's Energy & Chemical Security Deserves Honest Trade Intelligence.

We are at a turning point. The choices India makes today, about who it buys from, who it trusts, and what it builds, will define the next decade.

I have spent over two decades in the petrochemicals and specialty materials industry. I have sat across the table from suppliers, buyers, governments, and traders across four continents. One thing I’ve learned, India if often the last to know what is actually happening in the market it depends on most. There are people in India who understand this and are ahead of curve and successful. Decision making with right information at appropriate time is the key.

That needs to change.

India imports roughly 85% of its crude oil. Its chemical industry, worth over $200 billion and growing, depends on feedstocks, intermediates, and specialty inputs that come from a handful of suppliers in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe. We talk a great deal about Aatmanirbhar Bharat. But self-reliance is only possible when you understand exactly where you are exposed. And right now, most Indian companies simply do not have that visibility.

The Information Gap Is a Real Risk

I am not talking about data for its own sake. I am talking about the kind of intelligence that changes a decision. Where is a particular grade of polymer available today? What is the realistic landed cost from a new origin? Which supplier is actually reliable when shipping windows tighten? What regulatory shift in a partner country could quietly disrupt your supply chain in six months?

Most Indian importers and manufacturers do not have good answers to these questions. Not because they lack intelligence, they are sharp, experienced people. But because access to transparent, timely, unbiased trade information has never been easy in this part of the world.

Trust Is Not a Soft Word. It Is Structural.

When I founded Avviso Global, the core idea was straightforward. India needs a partner that works from the inside of global trade, not as a broker with a margin to protect, but as an advisor with a reputation to maintain.

There is a meaningful difference between the two.

A broker tells you what you need to hear to close a deal. An advisor tells you what you need to know to make the right decision, even if that means walking away from a transaction. We have done exactly that for clients. It is sometimes uncomfortable. It is always right.

Transparency is not a value statement. It is a competitive advantage, because in volatile markets, the party with better information and fewer hidden agendas will always make better decisions.

What Energy & Chemical Security Actually Looks Like

Security is not about hoarding supply or building walls. In the chemicals world, that is simply not possible. It is about building the right networks, understanding the right origination points, and having relationships that hold when the market gets difficult.

For India, this means a few concrete things. Diversifying origins, not just from a country risk standpoint, but from a quality and reliability standpoint. Building direct relationships with producers, not just trading houses. Understanding government policy shifts in supplier nations before they hit the price index. And having someone in your corner who has seen these cycles before.

I have lived through price shocks, supply disruptions, currency volatility, and geopolitical pivots that rerouted entire trade flows overnight. What separates the companies that come out ahead is not luck. It is preparedness. And preparedness starts with knowledge.

Avviso’s Role: Insight, Not Just Intermediation

We operate across polymer trading, advisory and India-entry support, government liaisoning, and specialty materials through Avviso. Across all of it, the thread is the same, bring real intelligence to the table, be transparent about what we know and what we do not, and build relationships that are worth more than any single transaction.

For a global supplier looking at India, we help them understand what the market actually needs, not what it says it needs in an RFQ. For an Indian buyer, we help them see the full picture of where value is being created or destroyed in their supply chain.

That is not a typical intermediary role. It is something closer to a trusted operator who has skin in the game alongside you.

The Decade Ahead

India’s chemical industry has a real chance to become a global force. The domestic demand is real. The policy intent is real. The talent is there. What has been missing is the infrastructure of trust and transparency that allows Indian companies to transact globally with confidence, and allows global companies to commit to India for the long term.

That is the gap Avviso was built to close.

We are a young company. We do not pretend otherwise. But we are built on experience, decades of it across Reliance, ExxonMobil, Ecolab, and Pentair, and on a belief that honest, informed trade is not idealism. It is just good business.

India’s energy and chemical security will not be built on hope. It will be built on better information, better relationships, and better decisions. That is the work we are here to do.
